SAULT STE. MAIRE, Mich. 鈥 Poet Lynn Domina visits 海角社区 on Tuesday, Nov. 14, for an afternoon master class and evening reception, reading, and book signing. All events are free and open to the public.
The master class is at 3 p.m. in room 217 of the Arts Center and is titled 鈥淭he Use and Abuse of the Line in Free Verse Poetry.鈥 The evening reading, reception, and book signing is 7-9 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Shouldice Library. Refreshments and light hors d鈥檕euvres will be offered.
Lynn Domina is the author of two collections of poetry,听Corporal Works,听which won the Intro Series Prize from Four Way Books,听and听Framed in Silence,听published听as part of the Editor鈥檚 Select Poetry Series from Main Street Rag.听She is also the editor of a collection of essays,听Poets on the Psalms.听Domina ‘s poetry appears in many periodicals, including听The Southern Review, The Gettysburg Review, Prairie Schooner, Christianity & Literature, The Louisville Review, and New Letters. Her scholarly work includes three reference books,听Understanding A Raisin in the Sun,听Understanding Ceremony,听and the recently published听The Harlem Renaissance: A Historical Exploration of Literature. She is currently working on an annotated edition of Nella Larsen鈥檚 novel,听Passing.听
Domina grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. She earned a bachelor of arts in English from Michigan State University, a master’s of Fine Arts in creative writing/poetry from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in English from Stony Brook University. She recently completed a Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.) at the Earlham School of Religion.听After many years in the western Catskill Mountains, Lynn now lives with her family in Marquette, Mich.
Domina鈥檚 visit is part of the LSSU Visiting Writer Series, in conjunction with the LSSU Library Writers Series to bring highly acclaimed authors and poets to campus for a shared literary experience with the community. The public will have the opportunity to hear Domina read her work, and answer questions about her writing process and publishing experience. Domina will also sign copies of her books that will be available for purchase.
LSSU offers both an undergraduate major and minor in creative writing. The program encourages innovation and experimentation as students develop their voices. Students complete coursework in prose, poetry, and performance writing, and are given opportunities to get publishing experience before graduation.
