LSSU鈥檚 Great Lake State Weekend Features 75th Anniversary and More

Traditionally each fall since 1995, the Laker community gathers for LSSU鈥檚 version of homecoming known as Great Lake State Weekend (GLSW). Great Lake State Weekend is for all ages of the Laker Community and LSSU parents and students are welcome. It is a campus-wide celebration welcoming the LSSU community, alumni, and friends for fun-filled family events to enjoy the weekend of Oct. 15 to 17, 2021.

The overarching theme of GLSW 2021 will be celebrating the institution鈥檚 75^th anniversary. This will entail a fireworks display on the north side of the Cisler Student and Conference Center immediately after Friday night鈥檚 Laker hockey game. Everyone is welcome.

鈥淭he campus community is looking forward to welcoming our alumni, friends, and future Lakers and their families for homecoming and celebrating LSSU鈥檚 anniversary,鈥� said LSSU President Dr. Rodney S. Hanley. 鈥淭here are so many accomplishments by our award recipients and inductees to honor and share in the pride of our institution.鈥�

LSSU Alumni Awards Reception & Ceremony

Friday, Oct. 15 鈥� 4:30 PM, Superior Room, Cisler Center

Annually, the LSSU Alumni Association recognizes awardees with four awards for their outstanding contributions in their respective communities while also advancing the university. This year鈥檚 recipients are:

聽 聽Jan Bednarz 鈥�72 ~ Outstanding Alumnus Award

聽 聽Cynthia Williams 鈥�76 ~ Kenneth J. Shouldice Alumni Achievement Award

聽 聽Hannah Pierson-Compeau 鈥�05 ~ Paul Ripley Award for Young Alumni

聽 聽To be named ~ Mansfield Parents of the Year

LSSU Athletic Hall of Fame Reception & Induction

Saturday, Oct. 16 鈥� 1:30 PM, LSSU Arts Center

Since 1999, the Laker Athletic Hall of Fame honors athletes, coaches, and administrators for their successes while at Lake State. This year鈥檚 class includes:

聽 聽Tom Borrelli, wrestling coach (1986-91)

聽 聽Becky Marquardt-King 鈥�07, women鈥檚 basketball

聽 聽Anthony Pavicic 鈥�07, track & cross country

聽 聽Megan (LaMothe) Schwab 鈥�09, women鈥檚 tennis

聽 聽Sean Tallaire 鈥�96, hockey

Laker Pre-Gamer on the Courts

Saturday, Oct. 16 鈥� 5 PM, Norris Center outdoor tennis courts

This is a revised version of past 鈥渢ailgates鈥� that have been located on the tennis courts. This year there will be activities for all ages with activities for kids, music, food, refreshments, and a cash bar. The culmination of the ceremonial Laker Athletics Women鈥檚 Walk and raffle drawings will occur at the event.

The pre-gamer is a way to warm up for Laker hockey vs St. Thomas Tommies hockey and the raising of LSSU鈥檚 2020 WCHA Championship Banner during Saturday鈥檚 game.

This year the LSSU Alumni Association is introducing the GLSW Power Pack, which provides discounted access to many of the weekend鈥檚 festivities and includes a special edition 75^th anniversary wristband and long-sleeve T-shirt.
