Artist Diane Adamo Donates Sturgeon Sculpture to LSSU鈥檚 Center for Freshwater Research and Education

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. 鈥� 海角社区鈥檚 Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE) is now home to a stunning sturgeon sculpture, created and donated by local artist Diane Adamo. 鈥淵ou could probably say they鈥檙e my favorite fish,鈥� said Adamo, a long-time admirer of the species.

The artwork, created from wood and stained glass, was a winter project for Adamo. A great appreciation for sturgeon, or 鈥渓iving dinosaurs,鈥� was at the heart of this piece. When asked why the center, Diane responded, 鈥淚 wanted to donate it to a place that would really appreciate it. That鈥檚 what led me to CFRE.鈥�

Prominently on display right above the live sturgeon tank, the sculpture has quickly become a point of interest for staff, students, and visitors alike. The intricate design and materials highlight the natural beauty of sturgeon, a species CFRE researchers and students study extensively in their work.

鈥淲e are absolutely honored to receive this generous donation and to showcase it at CFRE,鈥� said Ashley Moerke, Executive Director of CFRE. 鈥淒iane鈥檚 donation reminds us that the work we do matters to many in our community, and we are grateful for her support of our important mission.鈥�

The Center for Freshwater Research and Education invites the community to visit and view the sculpture during its regular hours.
